Ovechkin lays the lumber on Green

Ovechkin lays the lumber on Green

WeLoveDC loves my sports pics! This one appears in their 2009-2010 Caps Season Preview. This image is from training camp and shows how hard the team practiced. These two veterans? had no doubts about making the team, but even in a scrimmage they were trading hooks and slashes to get any advantage. Hopefully, they will play this hungry all season and make it to the finals so I can see Detroit lift the Cup here!

Ovie skates with his new linemate Knuble

Taking advantage of the fact that my new job doesn’t start until next week, I made my way back Kettler to watch the Capitals hold their second scrimmage of the year. Team A, which features the probable top line of Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Knuble with Jose Theodore in net, faced Team C featuring traditional grind liners captain Chris Clark, Brooks Laich, Matt Bradley, and David Steckel.

Ovechkin opened the scoring shorthanded, victimizing Mike Green and minor league goalie Jason Bacashihua with his patented shot through the defenders legs to the top shelf. After three full periods, the score was tied at two so the game was set to be decided by the shootout. In the sixth round, with both teams having scored once,  Boyd Gordon got one passed Calder Cup MVP Michal Neuvirth and Theodore was able to stone David Steckel to give team A the victory.

All in all, it was great to spend an afternoon watching free hockey from a team that may compete for a Stanley Cup this year.

This shot was part of the weekend flashback on WeLoveDC for 9/11 – 9/13. Again, Chris got on too, with his picture of Laura Tsaggaris who opened for the Proclaimers.

Update: DCist used this photo for their article about the opening of Caps Training Camp.

Hard hitting action is on its way

Hard hitting action is on its way

Its almost here! Yesterday I went to Caps Rookie Camp and got my first taste of hockey for the season. There was a decent crowd out at Kettler’s Capital Iceplex and the kids out on the ice were going at it hard. This is definitely one of my favorite times of year – baseball pennant races, college football has started, and hockey is coming!
