My Nephew Nolan!

Nolan Glandon

A few weeks back, Robin and I trekked back down to Charlotte, a journey that previously has been fraught with automobile related strife (but that’s a whole other story) to see my new nephew Nolan, my sister and her husband, and my mom.It was a wonderful weekend and I got a few good shots in between fussy periods. He’s a big little man who had already started to hold his head up unaided and even head butt the person holding him even though he was only about 7 weeks. This first shot was a great picture of his smile that we would get and below are a few more. Of course I thought I had already posted these pics online, but my mom – the ever attentive grandma, made sure to remind me that I hadn’t.

Not quite ready to roll over, but definately ready to look around.

Grandma has the magic touch.

Whats daddy doing to him?

Just in case you’re wondering, my sister was at work while we were taking pictures – she wasn’t purposely edited out!

Nats Pitcher Stephen Strasburg's Delivery

Hello Everyone! I’m back after slacking off for some time now, and DCist decided to use this composite for their article calling out the Nats for the second half. I hope that these Nats images, and some images from Caps development camp will kickstart the creative juices getting me going on this blog again.

WeLoveDC used this picture of Marji for their article about DC’s bike friendliness – especially for women. She trained like mad and did a great job at the triathlon so its great to see her effort get rewarded with some publicity.

Ripe for the Picking!

Ripe for the Picking!

Robin and I made the trek up to Mt. Airy, MD today to visit Rock Hill Orchard and pick some apples. It was an absolutely beautiful day and the parking lot represented this with its full load of vehicles from around Maryland and DC.  We ended up bringing home about 10 pounds of apples for the two of us, but more importantly, we got out of town and enjoyed the fresh air. Also, Robin was really excited because local soft-serve favorite Jimmy Cone was still open for a quick stop on the way home.

Caps Win Home Opener

Pregame on the VC Scoreboard

Pregame on the VC Scoreboard

Last night, Robin and I took part in what has become our new tradition, celebrate our anniversary with the opening of hockey season. The Caps put on a show against the Bruins in their opener on the road and were coming home to face the Leafs. The only real question was if the Maple Leafs propensity for violence could put the Caps off their game and literally beat them into submission (especially without long time enforcer Donald Brashear). Coming back for our second year as season ticket holders, we greeted others who would be sharing our section for the next 42 games and settled into our now familiar vantage from the upper deck. Everyone loves the on the ice feel of the lower bowl, but sitting at the blue line in the front rows of the mezzanine means we have a great view of the whole ice and get to see every play develop from corner to corner. This meant that we had  a great view of the first two periods as the Caps precision passing and sound defense (yes, sound defense) gave them a 6-1. Unfortunately, it also meant we could clearly see the wide open passing lanes and poor positioning that allowed the Leafs to make the score much closer than the game seemed. All in all, it was a great night to be in Chinatown.

Update: WeLoveDC used the opening faceoff as part of their Weekend Flashback 10/2-10/4/09! WeLoveDC loves my hockey pics, apparently even when I  take them with Robin’s pink camera.

WeLoveDC loves my sports pics! This one appears in their 2009-2010 Caps Season Preview. This image is from training camp and shows how hard the team practiced. These two veterans? had no doubts about making the team, but even in a scrimmage they were trading hooks and slashes to get any advantage. Hopefully, they will play this hungry all season and make it to the finals so I can see Detroit lift the Cup here!

WeLoveDC used this image as part of its Weekend Flashback for 9/25 – 9/27. I shot these during the Nats 100th loss of the season, then combined the 5 consecutive together using GIMP, a free open source image editing program (because I can’t afford Adobe Photoshop right now). These types of images take quite a while to put together, but if they were shot well provide a unique look at action.
